Outboard motor transom clamps have concave washers that grip the transom of a boat. This outboard came with the washers broken off of the threaded rods. When clamped to a boat, the washers are held in place by the threaded rod. The only thing my weld blobs had to do was hold the washer in place when the outboard was NOT clamped on the boat so the washers don’t get lost. My guess is the threaded rod wasn’t pure aluminum and could actually have been magnesium or some other metal. In any case, the first one (shown in the video) adhered fine the first time. The 2nd washer took 3 attempts before I could not break it off. I suspect it the welds will hold just fine and the aluminum welding rods, though expensive at $44 for 14 rods, worked extremely well in my Lincoln AC/DC 225 arc welder. For the home hobby guy who only needs to weld aluminum once every 2-3 years, the special rods might be a cheaper alternative than a mig welder with aluminum spool gun + another bottle of dedicated gas for aluminum.
